From Vision toInfrastructure.
The Diagnosis
City Archers was a newly formed 501(c)(3) with real vision and no digital foundation to carry it. The domain was owned. Nothing else was built. No donation system. No messaging beyond “after-school club.” No board presentation. No path from hobby program to credible nonprofit.
The site itself ran on a free GoDaddy builder — no ownership, no room to grow.
The gap wasn't Michael's work in the field. It was the infrastructure behind it.
The Build
Shifting Scope from Site to Foundation
Discovery started as a website consultation and became something larger once the real gap surfaced — not a page count, but positioning. The scope shifted from building a site to building the organization's foundation: platform, messaging, donation capacity, and governance presentation, in that order.
Platform, Donation & Messaging Architecture
- Platform migration: Moved off the free GoDaddy builder onto a Squarespace build City Archers owns outright, domain properly configured, site architecture built to scale past its current size.
- Donation infrastructure: A Zeffy donation system with fee-free, recurring giving — the first place City Archers could receive funds instead of directing donors nowhere.
- Messaging architecture: Pulled the real story out from under generic “after-school club” language — archery as a non-combative sport, character-building, scholarship pathway, urban access — and repositioned City Archers as an athletic corridor for urban youth, not a hobby program.
- Website structure: Seven core pages — Home, About, Programs, Advocacy & Scholarships, Leadership, Donate, Contact — built to hold up under a donor's or school partner's scrutiny, not only to look finished.
- Board presentation: Refined leadership bios and governance framing so the organization reads as legitimate to funders and partners, not as one founder's side project.
Advocacy & Operational Structure
- Advocacy positioning: Repositioned archery as a concussion-free scholarship corridor toward programs like Campbellsville and Kentucky Christian University — turning the sport into a pathway, not just an activity it competes in.
- Operational structure: Project boards for asset tracking and messaging refinement, replacing a scattered email thread with a working command center.
- Growth planning: The build aligned toward what's next — high school sport recognition, tournament hosting — so the systems don't need rebuilding when the organization grows into them.
Measurable Impact
- Moved off a free, unowned platform onto infrastructure City Archers controls.
- Donations now have a working destination — fee-free, recurring, immediate.
- Messaging repositioned from after-school club to scholarship-access athletic program.
- Board presentation upgraded from informal to funder-credible.
- Operations moved from email threads to a tracked project system.
